THE LEXICAL APPROACH
CONCEPT
The lexical approach is a method of teaching foreign languages described by Michael Lewis in the early 1990s. The basic concept on which this approach is based is the idea that an important part of learning a language consists in being able to understand and produce lexical phrases as fragments. Students are taught to be able to perceive patterns of language (grammar), as well as having meaningful uses of words available to them when taught in this way.
OPINION
We consider that it is a somewhat confusing method for both the teacher and the students, because they work with the lexicon.
ADVANTAGES
*Develop the ability to understand syntactic aspects.
*Students are able to learn new vocabulary to talk about different trades and professions.
*Encourage the use of the dictionary.
*Proposes many innovative and effective vocabulary activities.
DISADVANTAGES
*Students will not match the lexical inventory of native speakers.
*Lacks a precise methodology
