THE SILENT WAY

CONCEPT

The silent way is a methodology of teaching language based on the idea that teachers should be as silent as possible during a class but learners should be encouraged to speak as much as possible. There are three basic principles:

- The learner needs to discover or create

- Learning is  easier by the use of physical objects

- Learning is easier by problem-solving situations

OPINION

With this method the students have to create their own environment and create a situation  where they can take control of their learning. In addition, this methodology allows the student to be more autonomous because the teacher acts only as a facilitator.

Advantages of the method:

Students respond to their own motivation.

Focus in class, concentrate. You work in small groups (classes are not large).

Students can be creative.

Disadvantages:

Lack of work with real materials.

The teacher interact just a little bit with the students
